Glasgow Women’s Library

Internship - 2024

My six months at Glasgow Women's Library in 2024 was nothing short of life-changing. As someone with Scottish heritage through my dad's family, being immersed in this incredible feminist institution felt like coming home in more ways than one.

GWL is a testament to what grassroots organising can achieve—starting as an unfunded collective over 30 years ago, it's now a thriving organisation with extensive lending libraries, archives, multiple gallery spaces, and a vibrant community of staff and volunteers.

I contributed to the "Women Making It" program, facilitating craft sessions that brought women together to create and connect, and worked on the "Life Support: Forms of Care in Art and Activism" project, exploring how communities care for each other through creative practice. Diving into the archives revealed fascinating histories of women's health and chronic illness in Glasgow that resonated deeply with my own research.

Beyond the formal work, I found genuine community—making friends, attending incredible events from book launches to exhibitions, exploring Scotland, and experiencing firsthand how a truly inclusive feminist space can transform both individuals and communities.
